CDO
has a very long history in the Texas City Community. We are Christian
based part week, part day program for children ages 6 months thru 5
years. We offer family style care with a focus on Kindergarten
readiness. We keep our class sizes small on purpose and our children
busy all year long. Most of our families choose Children’s Day Out as
an alternative to traditional full day full week daycare. We are a less
expensive option for families who desire a less stressful experience for
their children and often seek us out as their child’s first experience
in a school setting.
Our Staff
CDO staff are trained caregivers with many years experience working with
children and working at FUMC-CDO. We are firmly committed to providing
the most efficient customer service possible. As a team, director and
staff meet regularly to pray, plan and evaluate CDO program activities
and issues. We believe consistent training and evaluation is vital to
the growth and success of our program.
Program Format
The CDO program utilizes a center-based classroom approach with access to
church grounds, library, fellowship hall and sanctuary, as well as our
new playground. The CDO staff carefully plans a variety of
activities for the children. Parents receive a monthly calendar
describing upcoming lessons, themes and activities.
Curriculum
Children’s
Day Out provides a flexible yet balanced curriculum. We teach: self-help
skills, social development, Christian living, language development, fine
and gross motor development, and pre-academic skills. As a part day,
part week school our goal is to focus on specific concepts each month
and imbed learning by a repetitive process of integrating concepts into
a variety of learning activities and experiences. Our integrated
approach mingles concepts such as left to right progression, sequencing,
spatial relationships, number and letter recognition, perceptual
development, and discrimination, as well as continuous vocabulary
building. with daily and monthly learning activities. Daily activities
will always include gross motor play (indoor and/or outdoor), a circle
time which involves discussion, stories and songs. Monthly activities
will include specific activity such as science, music & movement,
cooking, and Chapel.
Classrooms are arranged in a center based format which provides a
selection of learning stations such as dramatic play, blocks and
construction, math and manipulatives, reading and writing, sensory and
discovery, and art. Available centers may change to reflect monthly
concepts or lessons. We believe that in an environment such as this, the
child builds a solid foundation of confidence, independence, enthusiasm
for learning and trust which is instrumental to future school success.
Special Events
Throughout
the year CDO organizes several special events to celebrate the
children’s progress and also to raise funds for our program. Events such
as Open House, Christmas Pageant and Graduation are held during evening
hours and include a time of fun, food, and fellowship with families.
Other events such as the Christmas parade, Fall and Spring Festivals are
opportunities for community wide involvement as well as fundraising for
children’s program’s here at FUMC and having as much support and
participation from parents is welcomed and encouraged.
Community Service Projects
During the year CDO children participate in selected projects in order
to encourage the development of community awareness. Projects may
include collecting pet food or other needed items for local agencies or
organizations.
Indoor/Outdoor Play
An enclosed outdoor playground is available to the children daily,
weather permitting. During bad weather an indoor play space is
available. Occasionally skill based outdoor games and activities will be
conducted.
Children’s Day Out
follows TCISD/LMISD calendar for major holiday closings. There will be a
Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break during the school year. In the
event of bad weather or emergency, if the school districts are closed,
CDO will also be closed. Tuition is not reduced for holidays or school
closings.
